The Anthropocene is a new geological epoch currently being examined for potential inclusion in the Geological Time Scale (GTS). The specificity of the Anthropocene is that, for the first time in the Earth’s existence, humans are a driving geological force of the Earth system.
Sounds of the Anthropocene is a sound and visual installation that captures the transition into the Anthropocene. It conveys the ‘Great Acceleration’ that took place starting in the mid-Twentieth Century in the human footprint on the planet.
The sound and visual installation turns the Earth into an instrument and the musician playing it is the Sun.
Sound and color representing a range of markers are activated by sunlight, as the Earth rotates. This happens in real time.
The inmersive sounding piece is, as a result, a way of experiencing what we, humans, are doing to Earth.
